Assistant Area Manager

Westinghouse Parts Business (WPB) seeks an Assistant Area Manager in our New Stanton facility to support the WPB Fulfillment team. The New Stanton site works on projects to bolster plant safety and reliability by providing the instrumentation and control, mechanical, and electro-mechanical products and services that our customers require. This position will focus on leading one of our shop areas. The leading candidate will oversee either the Breaker Shop, Machine Shop, or Quality Control Inspection Shop with their background/skill set determining the best fit. Specific job responsibilities are as follows:
- Planning, communicating and monitoring shop resources to achieve effective utilization of employees, equipment, and material
- Leading team meetings with shop technicians to review ongoing work and ensure overall safety, quality, cost, and on time delivery
- Foster a safety and quality conscious environment through the use and reinforcement of Human Performance
- Assure personnel compliance to safety, regulatory, quality and workplace requirements/standards. Monitor personnel and area to observe unfavorable trends through observations of active work. Communicate discrepancies and solicit support as needed.
- Suggesting, participating in, and leading process improvement projects pertaining to shop layout, shop equipment, and work processes, as applicable.
- Providing estimated work hours on contract proposals through collaboration with Planning, Manufacturing Engineering, and Technicians.
- Determining appropriate priority for work requests and feedback to requesters when necessary
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend pay increases, promotions, transfers, and other personnel actions. Interview job candidates and make hiring decisions to fill any open positions.
- Managing headcount plan and onboarding new employees, as needed.
- Ensure training and qualifications of personnel are identified, documented and managed throughout all parts of department leading to a long-term pipeline of talent at all levels
Who You Are:
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent plus five or more years in a manufacturing/production environment.
- 3+ years as a manager, supervisor, or lead in a manufacturing/production facility.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel desired
- SAP knowledge, especially production, requisitioning, and material master data management desired
- Understanding of basic mechanical manufacturing, machining, or quality control processes is desired
- Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills and Good Team Orientation are required.
