Civil Engineering II – Kitchener, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid work arrangement available of 2 to 3 days per week in the office)
About the Opportunity
Westinghouse Electric Canada is a leading supplier of custom equipment, process systems and engineering consultant services for the Nuclear industry in Canada. The successful candidate will join an innovative team that supports Westinghouse’s mission to provide clean energy solutions.
What will you do?
Your day to day:
- Support of civil / structural design activities which include evaluation of various structural systems including but not limited to steel members, reinforced concrete, composite steel, etc.
- Addressing & resolving technical issues related to design of building structures.
- Addressing technical issues related to the fabrication, assembly, and construction phases of a civil/structural project. This includes technical justification of design changes and at times requires troubleshooting of emergent technical issues.
- On-Site support at various utilities, sites and smaller projects when required.
- Use of analytical tools such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, GTSTRUDL preferred
- Aid in maintenance of software compliance records and closure of engineering corrective actions
- Become familiar with applicable industry civil/structural codes and (such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, AWS) standards as well as company policies and procedures.
- Develop engineering sketches and markups using AutoCAD or similar CAD programs.
- Generating engineering documentation: design change proposals, document revisions, new documents and drawing generation, etc.
What will you bring?
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil/Structural Engineering
- At least 3 years of experience required, 3 to 6 years experience preferred
- Prior experience in civil/structural evaluations is preferred.
- Prior industry experience in nuclear industry a plus.
- FE/EIT preferred
- PE certification or plan to obtain PE is preferred.
- Intermedate computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Intermediate written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Intermediate teamwork skills
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
