Technician II
Reporting to the Site Manager, the Wind Technician II is responsible for assisting in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electric component maintenance. The primary goal is to maintain safe, effective, efficient, and profitable wind turbine operation.
- Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices, and maintain a safe working environment.
- Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines.
- Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement to correct malfunctions.
- Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing.
- Work a flexible on call schedule when needed. This may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum one (2) year technical wind industry experience, OR six (6) months technical wind industry experience and a certificate of completion from a Wind Technician program, OR in absence of technical wind industry experience, minimum three (3) years' experience working with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical skills and composite skills.
- Demonstrated use and understanding of intermediate level power tools such as hydraulic, power torque and diagnostic tools (e.g. fluke meter functions and hydraulic stress gauge)
- Ability to demonstrate intermediate working knowledge of industrial safety practices / protocols (e.g. Confined Space, energy isolation)
- Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain a Passport.
- Basic computer operation skills, familiarity with internet-based program navigation, and ability to generate and interpret computer data and ability to read, interpret and understand drawings and schematics to validate work activity and ensure that risks are identified and mitigated.
- Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet. Job will require standing outside the nacelle and nosecone at the top of the turbine.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
- Able to travel as required.
- Knowledge of and the ability to use various hand tools.
- Able to work safely in a confined space.
- Have an in depth understanding of the different components of the wind turbine systems.
- Possess the skills to perform mechanical and electrical equipment repairs.
The pay rate for the qualified candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law.
