Wilder Blean Assistant Ecologist
Kent’s wildlife needs to be restored to much higher levels. We can no longer allow common things to become rare. We can only do this by restoring large-scale habitat from degraded land. Doing this will contribute to solving global problems. But we won’t be able to do this unless we publicly aspire to a higher level of impact and show that we can deliver this.
The growing Monitoring & Evidence team at Kent Wildlife Trust is leading on the critical research underpinning our new strategic direction and thinking to respond to threats from climate change and increase resilience for climate adaptation. You will be supporting this vital work through taking a leading role in supporting the delivery of existing and novel Citizen Science approaches to collecting conservation evidence, along with working alongside the other Evidence Leads to develop robust vegetation monitoring protocols to be rolled out across our Estate and new Wilder Grazing sites, supported by a training programme aimed at staff and volunteers.
This post draws together a number of tasks that are crucial to the Trust’s Conservation Strategy. Ecological monitoring across our nature reserves will provide the evidence for our habitat management activities, especially as we move towards more naturalistic grazing and wilding approaches. The post holder will play an important part in the delivery of the survey and monitoring work.
In this post you will also play a key role in ensuring that volunteers are recruited, supported and engaged with the ongoing survey and monitoring work to help evidence the impact of our habitat management activities. This will involve working with existing and new volunteers on the Wilder Blean project, as well as inspiring new volunteers and coordinating with county recording groups to get involved with Kent Wildlife Trust’s wider survey and monitoring work programme.
Additionally, you will also support the Monitoring & Evidence team with ad hoc duties such as report writing, stakeholder management and GIS tasks.
