WHO WE ARE
The mission of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is to conserve the lands and waters upon which all life depends. As a science-based organization, we develop innovative, on-the-ground solutions to the world’s toughest environmental challenges so that people and nature can thrive. Our work is guided by our values, which include a commitment to diversity and respect for people, communities, and cultures. From a rewarding mission to career development and flexible schedules, there are many reasons to love life #insideTNC. Want to know more? Check out our TNC Talent playlist on YouTube to hear stories from staff or visit Glassdoor.
One of TNC’s primary goals is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that employees around the globe have a sense of belonging and feel that their unique contributions are valued. We know we’ll only achieve our mission by hiring and engaging a diverse staff that reflects the communities in which we work. Recognizing that people bring talent and skills that have been developed outside the scope of a job, we take a holistic approach to recruitment that considers life experience in addition to the professional requirements listed in our postings. Please apply – we’d love to hear from you. To quote a popular saying at TNC, “you’ll join for the mission, and you’ll stay for the people.”
WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Renewable Energy & Climate Social Science Fellow will further the Wisconsin chapter’s work in climate mitigation, renewable energy deployment and natural climate solutions. As we progress in our 2030 goals, there are many opportunities throughout Wisconsin in agrivoltaics and the public perception of renewable energy that require interdisciplinary expertise in the social and natural sciences. The fellow will be an integral member of the Conservation Science team and interact with TNC colleagues at the BU, division, and regional scales. Furthermore, the fellow will have the opportunity to engage with external partner organizations and agencies as well as the public. The broad types of social science projects the fellow will undertake may include: 1) projects that synthesize existing scholarly work into easily applied and accessible tools, 2) small-scale innovative projects that advance knowledge and/or partner engagement on novel climate mitigation solutions, and/or 3) research on fostering adoption of climate mitigation solutions across communities and sectors.
The Renewable Energy and Climate Social Science Fellow will be involved in a project(s) focused on our renewable energy transition work in Wisconsin and the Midwest more broadly. In conversations with internal and external colleagues across multiple sectors (climate, regenerative agriculture, land management), the Wisconsin Business Unit seeks to generate important knowledge in agrivoltaics and the public perception of renewable energy that will enhance clean energy deployment in the state.
