WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Director of Strategic Communications develops, implements, and manages efficient and effective communications strategies, and media and engagement plans to help drive our organizational mission and strategies. They facilitate on-going collaboration and alignment of Michigan within the Midwest Division and all parts of the globally dispersed marketing division and internal and external stakeholders, identifying and addressing communication and media needs and opportunities. The Director of Strategic Communications manages communication strategies and program implementation, which may include high profile or key audiences like Board of Directors, state, and country board of trustees. They supervise staff and manage the budget, key operational plans, and dissemination of media information. They provide consultation, media training, coaching, and talking points to persons serving as spokesperson(s).
WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU
As the Director of Strategic Communications, you will be supervising, supporting and working with a dynamic, creative, fast-paced team. Your work in this role will serve to provide leadership and oversight for the Communications team and be a voice for communications work and strategy with Michigan leadership. You will provide strategic counsel on communications activities to other teams in the Chapter, such as Government Relations, Conservation and Development. The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and experience designing, organizing, and directing complex projects, and deep experience in production and implementation of one or more of the core fields of communication (e.g., writing, media, digital, creative, etc.). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing mission of conservation by directing and shaping our marketing and communications work in Michigan.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 8 years related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience in project management, developing communications, media and engagement strategies and measuring results.
- Experience cultivating and managing team relationships.
- Experience supervising staff and team.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
- Experience developing, implementing and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.
- Communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to persuasively convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy to diverse groups including donors, board members, and the public.
- Demonstrated ability in managing the fiduciary aspects of planning and delivery of budgets.
- Excellent writing, presentation, communication, mediation and negotiation skills.
- Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.
- Experience and/or understanding of communication best practices at a decentralized organization a plus.
- Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant marketing disciplines. Cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
- Management experience that includes ability to lead, motivate, set objectives and manage performance and conflict resolution.
- Fosters an environment of creativity and professional growth.

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $88,300-$93,800 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
