What to Expect
Tesla Infotainment team is seeking an enthusiastic power design engineer to own and drive the development and validation of the power subsystem for the Infotainment board. This engineer will be responsible for 1) delivering reliable, efficient, and cost-effective power architecture, 2) designing, analyzing, and optimizing power supply systems. This role will involve a deep understanding of switching regulator technologies, power integrity considerations, and hands-on experience with components such as inductors, capacitors and MOSFETs.
What You’ll Do
  • Power Architecture: Understand system-level power requirements and perform power budget analysis. Publish power architecture including power distribution tree and component selection
  • Power System Modeling: Utilize simulation tools to model and analyze power supply circuits, predicating performance under various operating conditions. Validate designs through prototyping and testing
  • Power Supply Design: Design and development efficient switching regulator for each subsystem Optimize power conversion efficiency, transient response, and output voltage ripple. Design and development digital multiphase controller and smart power stages for advanced CPUs, FPGAs, GPUs, and ASICs
  • Component Characterization: Characterize and select components, including inductors, capacitors, and MOSFETs, based on performance and cost requirements. Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate and qualify components for use in power supply designs
  • Inductor and Capacitor Selection: Select and design inductors and capacitors for specific power supply applications, Optimize components selection to meet size, efficiency, and reliability targets
  • MOSFET Circuit Design: Design MOSFET-based power stages, considering efficiency, thermal management, and switching characteristics, Evaluate and select suitable MOSFETs for power supply applications
  • Power Integrity Analysis: Perform power integrity analysis to ensure stable and reliable power distribution within the Infotainment board, Mitigate issues related to voltage droops, noise, and electromagnetic interference (EMI)
  • Thermal Analysis: Perform thermal analysis to ensure proper heat dissipation and reliability of power supply designs, Implement thermal management strategies to address temperature-related challenges
  • Documentation, Schematics/layout, and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, schematics, and reports, Review power supply layouts and provide feedback to layout team, Communicate design decisions, trade-offs, and results to cross-functional teams
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of switching regulator topologies and power supply fundamentals
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such SPICE or PLECS
  • Experience with power supply controller techniques and feedback loop design
  • Hands-on experience with power supply testing and validation
  • Knowledge of power electronics and semiconductor devices
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
