The Tesla Energy Product and Service Engineering team is looking for a passionate, collaborative, and skilled Product Engineer to join the team to support the explosive growth of our Industrial Storage fleet. Tesla is committed to having industry-leading deployment and commissioning times and to support this, the Industrial Storage team is seeking a commissioning focused Product Engineer to lead the commissioning of Industrial Storage systems of varying scale within the Utility, Commercial and Industrial (C&I) space, which includes microgrid applications. You will work with a team of Engineers, Field Service Technicians, and third parties to commission the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), SCADA and Balance of Plant. This will include the diagnosis and resolution of issues within all these areas including but not limited to the inverter and battery modules, thermal system, digital control system and computer network. To be successful, in this role you will need to be skilled at troubleshooting electrical/electronic and mechanical systems, and computer networks on-site and remotely. You should be comfortable working in the field, directing and working with Field Service Technicians, while coordinating with internal Project Engineering and Project Management teams and multiple external customer and construction stakeholders. What You’ll Do
  • Lead the execution of commissioning activities for projects both onsite and/or remote
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and firmware issues that arise during commissioning
  • Support cross-functional efforts to drive actions with Field Quality, Manufacturing, Design and Field Service teams as required to systematically contain and prevent the reoccurrence of known issues
  • Support the development and evolution of real-time service and diagnostic tools to enable efficient commissioning and serviceability
  • Support the development and evolution of data analytics tools to enable detailed insights at both a site and fleet level
  • Support the creation and evolution of commissioning documentation by working cross-functionally with Subject Matter Experts, and Lead the consolidation and integration of this documentation into an end-to-end commissioning document
  • Quantify the benefit of a product or manufacturing improvement opportunity and work with the engineering and manufacturing teams to implement the improvement for existing and future products as appropriate
  • Explain the root cause and resolution of issues to commercial and utility customers as needed
  • Support the creation of service O&M documentation
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition, applied to firmware/software-enabled systems
  • Prior experience troubleshooting electrical/electronic and mechanical systems, software/firmware, SCADA/network, or process failure modes
  • Proven cross-functional leadership and collaborative skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An ability to prioritize and execute many tasks in parallel
  • An excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce clear and concise written documents and diagrams
  • Ability to travel inside the region to support the commissioning of Industrial Storage Systems

Expected Compensation

$84,000 - $300,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
