What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a motivated Process Engineer to lead engineering initiatives for Casting Manufacturing operations at the Lathrop site. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, working as part of a strong and agile team to tackle ambitious projects. The Process Engineer will be responsible for process and material flow definition, analyzing and optimizing process to support production rates, and designing processes related to launch of new products in the factory. We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual who can create systematic workflows to unlock efficient material flows, drives business process, high throughput capabilities and operating models throughout our organization. This team is responsible for supporting all physical engineering needs of the Production, including designing mechanisms for all material manipulation and material flow, including aspects from part receiving, high pressure die casting (HPDC) fabrication, Trimming, CNC machining and assembly; with solutions to safety and ergonomic hazards. Successful members of the team will be highly proactive and self-sufficient in pursuing improvement projects, be able to multitask and refocus efforts immediately to meet constantly shifting demands in a fast-paced environment and have exceptional organizational skills to coordinate changes with all impacted teams.
What You’ll Do
  • Target key KPIs, such as Quality, Safety, Rate, Downtime, and number of processes; set targets, analyze data, and monitor trends, and drive projects to meet those targets
  • Identify areas of improvement with existing processes and areas of the manufacturing line to optimize factory processes
  • Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Product Introduction, and other teams to define PFMEA, process, qualify, and track new processes and all associated work instructions, equipment, tools, materials, and training
  • Perform supporting activities for Engineering and Manufacturing including 5S and Lean manufacturing activities, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety procedures
  • Utilize lean manufacturing tools and concepts such as value stream mapping, PFMEA, line balancing, and 5S for continuous improvement
  • Define and execute process improvement studies to create, characterize, and optimize manufacturing processes
  • Use leadership, technical, and business system skills to drive process improvements throughout all vehicle manufacturing
  • Monitor project schedules, timelines and deliverables using standard project management tools and engineering systems
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or with equivalent experience
  • Previous vehicle manufacturing experience
  • Hands-on skills with hardware, tools, instruments, general electromechanical systems, measurement techniques
  • Experience with ergonomic process design, part variation control, and human factors effects on product
  • Data collection and analysis experience
  • Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within a vehicle manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and email
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
  • Extensive detailed analysis experience to make data-driven decisions and summarize results for executives
  • Experience with layouts in AutoCAD
  • Experience with discrete event simulation software is a plus (ARENA, Flex Sim, etc.)

Expected Compensation

$68,400 - $135,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
