The Role
The Technical Services Operation & Maintenance Team continuously monitors and manages utility systems ensuring that they meet the process specifications for vehicle production. When there are degradations to these systems that impact safety or production, the team is the first line of defense to make time-critical adjustments. The team is also responsible for continuously designing and implementing strategies/improvements to ensure optimum performance of utility systems, working on energy saving projects and driving reliability initiatives for a continuous OEE improvement.
As a mechanical engineer your scope will comprise a wide variety of machinery: centrifugal chillers, large turbo compressors, cooling tower systems, boilers, pumping systems, large air handling units, extraction systems, centralized chemical delivery systems are among some of the assets that you will be managing.
What You'll Do
- Assist/lead the troubleshooting of system operational issues.
- Complete monthly system operational cost analysis.
- Review trends, analyze data, and monitor equipment/systems to identify trends and ensure they are running within specifications.
- Responsible for monitoring current system data demands and utility capacity concerns.
- Develop solutions to reduce operational costs and/or o improve operational performance of utility systems.
- Create & modify standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Develop and lead projects based on operational expansion needs, energy cost reduction targets and OEE (reliability) improvement requirements.
- Assist with coordinating installation and commissioning of new systems in the Gigafactory.
- Train facilities personnel on new systems and correct operations.
- Apply Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) concepts and root cause failure analysis.
- Work with EHS Team to ensure/resolve local environmental and safety compliance of systems.
- Develop and implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies/programs for systems.
What You'll Bring
- 4+ years of experience in field engineer/project engineer roles with a focus on mechanical systems/industrial processes.
- Intermediate knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and industrial process systems including: chilled/cooling and heating water distribution networks, compressed air networks, rotary equipment (pumps, fans, compressors), HVAC. Hands-on experience on rotary equipment maintenance and diagnosis is a benefit.
- Strong troubleshooting background and issue resolution.
- Strong data and system analysis.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Intermediate project management skills.
- Proven ability to work in a large, complex environment where you must adapt to meet company needs.
- German Language is a plus.
