What to Expect
The Staff Launch Quality Engineer will work as a member of Tesla’s Quality organization. The primary objective of this role is to support launching of the production of high-quality electric vehicles through the continuous improvement of process and product quality plus the systems that surround them.
The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver at core, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset, expected to work cross-functionally to identify and prioritize potential product and process failures and drive both corrective and preventative actions for the future program’s development.
What You’ll Do
  • Lead a team of Quality Engineers and Engineering Technicians to prioritize and efficiently the launching activities
  • Motivating a team while challenging them to grow in their skillsets and career
  • Provide actionable and concise updates on main activities to Leadership related to the new program, including all the steps from each shop (Stamping, BIW, Plastics, Paint Plastics, GA, Dimensional)
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions
  • Establish and maintain quality performance metrics related to launch for each shop and each Quality team supporting the new model development
  • Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System to assure products meet expectations of our target customers
  • Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes
  • Work cross-functionally to develop and implement robust quality systems to improve our data input and output
  • Support the overall team in building and implementing appropriate quality audit standards and procedures to identify and prevent SOP
  • Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of quality engineering experience in manufacturing or a manufacturing-related industry
  • Degree in an Engineering-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience developing process / quality plans and audit procedures and driving failure analysis efforts and corrective actions
  • Specific training and demonstrated success in applying GD&T development, measurement equipment and expertise, DVA developing and understanding, fixture manufacturing and improvement
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solver with a strong quality and customer-focused mindset
  • Must possess a bias for action, with the ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in challenging circumstances, owning assignments, and taking full accountability for overall success
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to Tesla’s sites as needed or suppliers, especially in support of new product and line launches

Expected Compensation

$128,000 - $192,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
