What to Expect
Tesla’s Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of developing first-of-a-kind processes which allow us to produce amazing vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate in a safe and ergonomic environment. The Coatings team is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer for Pretreatment & Electrodeposition Engineering and Design (PTED). You will design and develop technically complex PTED systems for coating applications, which includes process development, specification, validation, establishing and optimization of critical process parameters, design for manufacturing, equipment specification and design, as well as installation and commissioning.

In this role, you will work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendor & technology partners on process development from concept to production. This role requires a thorough understanding of Manufacturing Engineering fundamentals and substantial skills with 2D or 3D CAD software. It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using first principles analysis and exercise aggressive design optimization.


What You'll Do

  • Lead PTED engineering from concept to production, developing optimized Pretreatment and Electrocoat systems to streamline manufacturing
  • Research and develop novel pretreatment and anti-corrosion technologies, optimizing equipment design, materials, and simulation methods
  • Analyze chemical consumption, heat requirements, flow rates, deposition rates, corrosion resistance, and adhesion performance
  • Utilize CFD software for fluid dynamics, drainage, spray coverage, throw power, and coating thickness optimization
  • Design and develop PTED systems compliant with safety regulations, hazard classifications, fire codes, and mechanical codes
  • Specify and select filtration and ventilation systems to maintain process quality and control environment
  • Manage large-scale projects, including timing plans, cost analysis, risk mitigation, executive reporting, and commissioning of manufacturing lines


What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Chemical preferred), or equivalent experience
  • Experience with functional/aesthetic coating processes, including automotive paint and powder coating
  • Skilled in DOE development, execution, and result interpretation for process optimization
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classification, fire and mechanical codes, filtration, and ventilation systems for process quality
  • Proficient in pressure drop calculations, application flow rates, piping system design, and mechanical equipment design in CAD
  • Expertise in 2D/3D modeling software (Catia, SolidWorks, Inventor, ProE, AutoCAD) and CFD software (Ansys, Autodesk CFD)
  • Familiar with automation systems, including HMI, SCADA, Siemens/Allen Bradley PLCs, and PFMEA development
