Data Engineer

TerraPower is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative Data Engineer to support enterprise data management, business reporting, and AI data modeling to join our growing IT team. A successful candidate is someone who demonstrates integrity, situational awareness and adaptability working in a diverse team with dynamic priorities.

As a Data Engineer, you will play an important role in defining and implementing data pipelines. Your primary responsibilities will include understanding business needs, identifying the data sources to meet those needs, applying best practices in data management, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and document the business relevance and ownership of data sources
  • Build tools to give us visibility into our data to support business processes
  • Support the development, delivery and training of BI dashboards and reporting tools to meet compliance objectives and enhance the organization’s program and project management teams
  • Work directly with business partners to discuss reporting needs, build requirements, identify sources of data, define security needs and agree on definition of complete

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with demonstrated capability in distributed computing technologies, ETL, query performance optimization, and modern SDLC methods
  • SQL proficiency and mastery of at least one general-purpose programming language
  • Passion for building and improving data pipelines that are performant, easy to maintain, and consistently deliver high-quality data products
  • Proficiency in various data modeling techniques, such as Entity Relational (ER), Hierarchical, Dimensional or NoSQL modeling.
  • Experience working in a cloud infrastructure environment and using various data warehouse and big data systems
  • 3+ years experience with orchestration tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, AWS Step function, Airflow, Control-m, etc. (preference Azure Data Factory/Synapse)
  • Some exposure/experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, QuickSight, QlickView, IBM Cognos analytics or Business Objects (preference Power BI)
  • Experience owning problems end-to-end and a willingness to pick up whatever knowledge you are missing to get the job done
  • Ability to move forward in an environment where requirements are sometimes loosely defined or that may have competing priorities/deadlines.

Job details

Salary Range Level 11: $ 120,671.62 - $ 201,119.37

  • Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary bands. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
