2025 Charles County Youth Summer Forestry Crew Member
Position Summary
The crew will assist Charles County Resilience Authority support native tree planting and long-term maintenance of those trees. Project goals include reducing impervious surfaces, positively impacting air quality and health outcomes, while advancing carbon sequestration and stormwater management. Project tasks may include: 1) Watering of native trees planted throughout different Charles County area worksites 2) Winter tree care and pruning of trees 3) Community outreach and engagement. Training may include: 1) Tree care and maintenance 2) Field tool use 3) Plant ID and 4) environmental education.

July 7, 2025 - August 15, 2025
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Project tasks may include: Watering of native trees planted throughout different schools and public buildings throughout Charles County, MD; Tree care including watering, mulching, and pruning of trees; Community outreach & engagement; Data collection including qualitative and quantitative information (pictures, observations, height, etc.); Participate in environmental education field trips
Marginal Duties
SMART Goals; Letter of Reflection; Program Feedback Survey; Member Reflection Survey; Help develop content for social media posts and outreach
Required Qualifications
- Must be a current high school student in DC, MD, or VA, preferably a Charles County high school student
- Must be able to obtain a Maryland work permit within 2-weeks of accepting the position
- Must be able to meet Crew Leader at designated pick-up locations for travel to worksites
- Must attend mandatory Program Orientation prior to the start date
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working outdoors a plus
- Experience working on a team a plus
- Experience gardening or landscaping experience a plus
Hours
36 per week
Living Accommodations
No housing provided; Persons must already have secured housing locally prior to starting the position; Candidates must confirm housing during phone screen or interview
Compensation
$15.00/hourly, 35-40 hour work weeks, bi-weekly pay
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
