The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of handson environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore
national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Position Description:
Job tasks will vary The ForUsTree project is a multi-jurisdictional effort between ten governmental agencies, four nonprofits, and one educational agency to increase tree canopy equity, foster community resilience, and improve access to employment and green careers. The ForUsTree goal is to develop an equitable tree canopy fostering community resilience and improve access to paid employment and green careers supporting long-term positive social-ecological health outcomes in DACs. The Community Engagement and Environmental Education (CEEE) intern will have the opportunity to participate in community engagement and outreach, a community science urban heat island mapping campaign, and plan for effective and equitable urban tree canopy implementation by supporting a tree equity analysis and development of the Tree Equity Planning Portal.
Member Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Will participate in analysis and application of urban heat, tree canopy, and other related data to the FoUsTree project. Intern will prepare reports and presentations of work for different audiences: HARC staff scientists, project partners, key stakeholders, and community members. Will present to HARC staff, project staff, and community partners. Participate in planning for and conducting community engagement or outreach.
Member Marginal Duties:
Will participate in team and staff meetings at HARC and interface with project partners. May work with GIS team on mapping and presentation of heat and urban tree canopy data. May work with communications team on project-based material for social media and educational or outreach content. May support the Senior Project Manager with project management and administrative duties. 5. Member Required Qualifications List the qualifications that are absolutely necessary for someone to serve effectively in this position.
To perform this internship successfully, an individual must be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, internet, and email software..
Member Preferred Qualifications:
Certificate in Geographic Information Systems
