Position Summary

The Black Women's Crew is seeking Black crew members (age 18+) who self-identify as women. This crew is a safe space for women of color to learn, grow, and gain new technical skills and explore careers in environmental conservation. Crew members will work on service projects, including invasive species removal, habitat restoration, litter abatement, and trail work at various local National Park Service sites.

Crew Leaders will guide and help train crew members with hand and power tool use, equipment maintenance, trail maintenance and construction, emotional first aid, plant and tree identification, urban forestry basics, and more. Crew Leaders will be responsible for incorporating the environmental education curriculum. Project monitoring and data collection will also be required throughout the season.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Park Stewardship & Conservation Work: Support Park Partners at Arabia Mountain and West Atlanta Watershed Alliance with hands-on conservation efforts, including invasive species removal, litter abatement, trail maintenance, and facility upkeep to ensure safe and accessible outdoor spaces.
  • Community Engagement & Outreach: Assist in planning and participating in community engagement initiatives, including environmental awareness events, volunteer days, and educational outreach programs.
  • Environmental Education & Programming: Participate in environmental education lessons, guiding community members in learning about local ecosystems, sustainability, and conservation efforts.
  • Public Speaking & Leadership Development: Present on their experiences over the summer, reflecting on key learnings, skills gained, and the impact of their work on the environment and local communities.
  • Saturday Workdays & Special Events: Commit to attending and actively participating in weekend conservation and education events to support the organization's mission and community involvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a young adult aged 18-25.
  • Must be interested in the outdoors, environmental studies, and conservation work.
  • Must be able to commit to the entire duration of the program.

Hours

34 per week

Compensation

16.50 Hourly Rate. Paid Bi-Weekly

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
