Sr. Development Project Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Development Project Manager role focuses on early-stage development, due diligence, engineering, interconnection, and permitting of Distributed Energy solar + energy storage projects ranging in size from 2MW to 50MW. These may be self-developed greenfield projects, or acquisition projects where we work through LOI and MIPA’s with the original developers. The PM will work with the Sr. Director of Project Delivery, Engineering & Interconnection Team, and our Project Development team on developing commercially viable projects through the controlled management of all pre-NTP activities. At NTP, the projects are transition to the Project Execution team of project managers, engineers, construction managers, and our safety department.
The Project Manager ensures success by managing all aspects of the early stages of projects through the management of inhouse and outside stakeholders, including consultants, lawyers, engineers, permitting agencies, utilities, developers, analysts, financiers, construction personnel, management, and others. PM’s should have deep knowledge of commercial solar and storage projects with strong problem-solving skills, people & team management skills, and be able to work independently to push tasks and projects to be shovel ready or ready for the Execution Team. The Project Manager reports to the Sr. Director of Engineering & Delivery, or another member of senior leadership as determined by the President of Q CELLS or a delegate.
This position will work remotely, or from our Teaneck, NJ office (if local) and requires flexibility to support travel for multiple projects in various geographical regions, anticipated to be 10% of the year, with a potential of travel up to 20% of the year. Remote work may be approved for the right candidate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the due diligence, engineering, estimates, permitting, and procurement of multiple solar + energy storage projects.
- Generate effective reports for company management on the status, progress, and relevant issues of the various solar + energy storage projects.
- Work with in house engineering and various consultants to support early designs and due diligence.
- Work with EPC’s to obtain cost estimates to support sales and development efforts in the pre NTP phase.
- Develop and implement achievable project work plans and schedules.
- Prequalify EPC partners.
- Create consultant and EPC bid packages, analyze bids, and assist in awarding contracts.
- Write and negotiate contracts from Qcells templates.
- Manage engineers and contractors in support of project goals.
- Produce detailed, logic-based schedules for each project.
- Work with our Project Management Solution software, Procore.
- Create order of magnitude and contractible budgets.
- Work with many internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects have achievable scope and timeline requirements.
- Project safety is of paramount importance and the PM will enhance our safety culture at the project level.
- Coordinate with the Engineering, Procurement, and Business Development teams to maintain continued alignment with high-level company objectives and workflows.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Engineering, Management, architecture, or another related engineering science is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of project management experience with an excellent track record of achievement in ground mount commercial solar development.
- A minimum of 2 years of PROJECT MANAGEMENT experience developing projects involving commercial BESS projects, be then attached to PV or standalone.
- High degree of knowledge on ground mount (fixed and single axis) projects in the Northeastern US. A plus if the candidate has experience on roof and carport PV projects.
- An understanding of power systems, electrical grid & smart grid concepts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience, interest in, and general knowledge of the energy industry, especially the community solar and energy storage sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple parallel projects and prioritize competing demands.
- Experience working with project management software platforms.
