Lead Engineer, EE Digital Hardware Design

Overview:
Nikola’s High Speed Electronic Hardware Engineering team is on the lookout for EE Digital Hardware Design, Lead Engineer, to support the development of ECUs (Electronic Control Modules) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems and subsystems for prototype and production vehicles.
Responsibilities:
You will:
  • Design and develop complex automotive electronic design: analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits; BOMs, PCB Design
  • Define component placement and circuit trace routing rules, oversee board layout from feasibility studies to board tape-out while meeting automotive/IPC/ASIL requirements
  • Consider BOM Cost and availability
  • Apply design expertise to define and improve Company procedures and processes, system and product specifications
  • Incorporate feedback and lessons learned
  • Perform design research and verification development, testing, and utilization of hardware, components, mechanisms, materials, thermal, EMC,/EMI, enclosure for platform utilization
  • Develop plans for testing, simulation, debug, signal integrity, power, grounding and general board layout principles
  • Have a solid understanding of Product Life-Cycle; including concept and requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification and release
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams (Chief, Program, Project, Purchasing, Quality, Software/Firmware, Controls, etc)
  • Provide design guidance, debug, support, and similar efforts to the Hardware design engineering team as well as to other cross-functional groups
  • Create Validation and Test Plans for Design and Product Validation (DV/PV)
  • Use lab equipment to perform board bring up and debug
  • Good understanding of IPC, ASIL and ISO26262 standards
  • Organized teammate with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Support Change Management and Deviation Processes, risk analysis, failure modes, and root-cause analysis
  • Support and develop component-level performance characterization and specification
  • Technical Support with Contracted Manufactures/Suppliers
  • Participate in Program/Management Meetings
LEADERSHIP SKILLS:
  • When required, lead a small team of 1-3 people
  • Manage assigned tasks, schedule, and budget
  • Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the team
  • Ensuring that all tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements
  • Verify that all assigned work has been completed accurately and on time
Qualifications:
  • You have:
    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience in Hardware Development Engineering (Automotive sector preferred)
  • Experience with High-Speed Design such as: DDR, M.2, SATA, PCIe, USB 3, Gigabit Ethernet, FPD3, GMSL2, HDMI, DP, 3/12G SDI or similar
  • Experience with PCB Circuit Design
  • Strong analytical mind
  • Self-motivated individual with a passion to succeed, a positive attitude and the ability to communicate and work well with others in a team environment
  • Familiar with Office Work Environment, Jira, Confluence
