Overview:
We’re on the lookout for a highly skilled Lead Production Technician for our Class 8 Heavy-Duty trucks. In this role, you will lead and manage the reworks and repair operations for Class 8 heavy-duty trucks, with a focus on alternative fuel systems (EV, Fuel Cell Hydrogen) within a manufacturing plant. The role will directly support the production assembly line, ensuring vehicles are serviced efficiently to meet production goals. This position requires both hands-on technical work and clerical duties, working closely with the Production Manager to maintain smooth operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the installation of components on Class 8 trucks, including both conventional and alternative fuel systems.
  • Assist, manage, and track the implementation of design changes, deviations, and rework of parts as needed for all vehicle types.
  • Perform quality inspections and repairs of vehicles to ensure they meet safety and operational standards.
  • Communicate directly with the Production Manager, Production Supervisors, Manufacturing, Engineering, Readiness, and Procurement teams to address issues and align repair schedules with production timelines.
  • Ability to follow directions while being a self-starter.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Proficiency in JIRA, Catia, 3DX.
  • Execute repairs according to proper specifications and procedures, escalating issues to Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Manufacturing teams through JIRA boards.
  • Track, log, and manage all repairs, ensuring detailed record-keeping for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports for management.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring compliance with plant safety standards.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all repairs and installations are completed on time.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to a team of technicians/associates, offering training and technical support as needed.
  • Collaborate with the production team to anticipate vehicle maintenance needs and minimize downtime.
  • Utilize diagnostic software and tools to troubleshoot mechanical issues and ensure vehicle readiness.
  • Monitor and maintain shop safety protocols, inventory, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude with a focus on efficiency in diagnosing and resolving vehicle issues.
  • Show excellent communication skills to work across departments, conduct meetings, and lead a team.
  • Previous expertise in Class 8 vehicles.
  • Physical stamina to (including but not limited to) stand, kneel, bend, push, pull, reach, grip, lift, etc.
  • Comprehension of and adherence to safety & policy practices.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in R&D, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • High mechanical aptitude and focus on efficiency.
  • Experience as a welder (MIG/TIG) is a plus.
  • Certification in hybrid and electric vehicles. (Preferred, not needed)
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software (CANalyzer-Vector, Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link, etc.).
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • ASE certifications in medium/heavy truck repair preferred.
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.
  • Ability to use computers, hand, electric, and pneumatic tools.
  • Customer-first attitude.
