Staff Materials Engineer, Castings

The Lucid Materials and Joining team is seeking a Staff Castings Engineer to lead the development and implementation of casting technologies at Lucid. The ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective field(s), possess the ability to learn quickly, and excel within a fast-paced environment.

The Role:

  • Subject matter expert for complex and structural castings (high pressure die casting, semi-permanent molding).
  • Provide manufacturing feasibility input to design engineering to ensure proper material selection, heat treatment, and acceptance criteria.
  • Author material and process standards for cast materials.
  • Develop and execute qualification plans to meet engineering requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, root cause, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Drive advancements in new castings technologies.
  • Coordinate CAE and physical validation testing.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of casting or process engineering experience (including practical experience in product design and development).
  • Knowledge of process-structure-property relationships for cast materials.
  • Working knowledge of cast manufacturing methods and practices.
  • Ability to run casting flow simulations to optimize product design and minimize casting defects.
  • In-depth understanding of property evaluations using a first principles approach.
  • Hands-on experience with standard material laboratory equipment and metal testing procedures.

Education:

  • BS/MS in Materials Engineering or other relevant fields.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Materials Engineering.
