We are currently seeking a Restraint System - Test Engineer. This position requires an excellent understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals with testing to be responsible to manage our validation plans with autonomy. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.

Note: Sub-system means the Airbag together with the host component, like
  • Passenger airbags and knee airbags in Instrument panel
  • Side airbags in seat,

Role

  • Manage and execute part of the Restraint Sub-system integration validation plan:
    • For new development as well as model years variants
    • Support the DREs to build validation plan and keep the validation plan tracker up-to-date
    • Manage Testing: forecast, material order, test lab, test fixture, support resources, parts certification, pre-test checks, witness testing, post-tests checks, tear-down, first level analysis, kinematic tracker, test report, scrap/storage of the parts, etc..
    • Ensure that the tests are performed properly to meet the expectation.
  • Work together with the Restraints and Interiors DRE to learn the design and behavior of their individual parts and drive the common development for the sub-system
  • Make test reports for tests performed by Lucid (at Lucid or external facilities), or collect tests reports from external test labs or suppliers when Lucid delegates the test ownership.
  • Perform test video analysis and document the test trackers
  • Actively participate in root cause analysis with the owners of the components involved in the issue
  • Assemble the test parts onto the test fixture (includes heavy parts like seats or IPs)
  • Having short and punctual intervention in climatic chambers at low or high temperatures (around -35C or +85C)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related fields and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
  • Enough experience to demonstrate the capacity to fully meet the role; 6 months experience in testing of Restraints, Seats, IP or upper trims, Crash tests or other Safety components
  • Deep understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals: mechanics of materials, materials properties and engineering of materials, kinematics of solids, failure mechanics and capacity to apply those fundamentals in problem solving
  • Enough CAD skills to consult existing CAD assemblies to understand the assembly and taking useful measurements in relation to the tests

Advantageous

  • Some knowledge about the design and engineering of airbags and/or interiors parts, direct experience in automotive OEM or Tier 1 suppliers
  • Experience in assembly and dis-assembly of Automotive interiors parts
  • Experience in testing (crash, airbag deployment, seats, IP and/or upper trims)
  • Enough CAD skills to design small brackets or design simple fixtures
  • Experience in occupant safety system performance optimization
  • Experience using APQP processes (DVP&R, 8D, DFMEA, DRBFM)
  • Knowledge of CAE analysis and restraint system integration and optimization
  • 6 sigma Green or Black Belt
  • Ability to conduct efficient reporting, both oral and written; Ability to articulate highly technical issues to audiences such as the crash safety field engineering or Interiors engineering
  • Capacity to negotiate (with test labs, logistic, plant or other to achieve our goals without compromising future relationship with those partners)
  • High ethics and diligence
  • Physical capacity to manipulate interiors parts in and out of test bucks or tests fixtures
  • Curiosity, thoroughness

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related fields and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

  • California (Bay Area) - $104,000-$143,000

The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
