Intern, System Efficiency Engineer, Summer 2025
Team Description:
The Efficiency, Performance & Systems team at Lucid is responsible for the range, efficiency, and longitudinal performance of our vehicles. From the blistering speeds of Air Sapphire to the world leading efficiency of Air Pure, we drive excellence in these attributes through extensive modeling and testing.
We are currently seeking a Systems Modeling Efficiency Engineering Intern. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with vigor and determination. They will be expected to have a system level understanding of electric vehicles, demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
Come be a part of the team who empowers:
"Go as far as you can, as fast as is possible, using the least amount of energy."
Efficiency, Performance & Systems team is mainly focused on following activities:
Vehicle / Systems Modelling
- We develop and maintain an integrated vehicle performance model in MATLAB/Simulink for optimization of range, and performance of our current and future vehicles. This is achieved through system and component level analyses, and high-level controls development and tuning.
- We utilize components and subsystems level tests to validate models against data and ensure accuracy.
- We support energy consumption / range homologation, longitudinal performance, and track testing for all regions where Lucid sells products.
General Vehicle Efficiency
- We work to improve the efficiency and performance of existing products, through hardware and software improvements.
- We provide system level guidance and direction to many teams at Lucid by assessing impact of proposed changes through vehicle level modeling and testing
- We collaborate with vehicle integration, powertrain and program teams to set range and performance targets through cost trade off and competitor analysis ensuring we make the world's most compelling vehicles.
Role/Responsibilities:
This role will offer unique opportunity for interns who want to gain system level understanding of electric vehicles while working with world's most technologically advanced and state of the art powertrain. Our team interacts with all vehicle subsystems, therefore we can curate a meaningful project that aligns with the intern's specific interests on the vehicle.
As an intern in the Efficiency, Performance and Systems group, you will get the opportunity to interface with cross-functional teams to improve the energy efficiency of all Lucid's vehicles. You will gain experience across the whole life cycle of a simulation engineer:
- Creating initial model development and test plans
- Creating simulation models to improve accuracy or capability of system vehicle model
- Working with test engineers to execute test plans and validate simulation models
- Documentation of work completed
Day to Day Activities:
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to understand systems being modeled
- Work with test engineers to design and execute test plans to generate data for models
- Analyze test and real-world data to identify opportunities for model/vehicle improvements
- Work with expert modeling engineers within the team to learn industry leading modeling techniques
- Create scripts to automate workflow
- Validate component, sub-system, and full system models against data
Qualifications:
Preferred:
- Strong fundamental understanding of engineering concepts
- Ability to work in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment
- Self-starter, eager to learn, curious mindset, sense of ownership
- Detail oriented with a problem-solving mindset
- Coding/modeling experience
