About the Role:

The Field Officer will report to the Field Operations Lead and will be responsible for collecting and processing soil samples from various research and commercial sites across NSW, Victoria, and Southern Queensland.

The role involves ensuring that the collection and analysis of samples are carried out to the highest standard in a timely and efficient manner. It also includes working outdoors, using specialized sampling equipment, and collaborating with a passionate and dynamic team.

Responsibilities:

As a Field Officer, you will work alongside a dedicated team and be responsible for conducting remote field soil sampling across various locations in the east coast of Australia. Your role is crucial in delivering high-quality carbon projects for our partnering growers. This involves troubleshooting in the field while adhering to Workplace Health & Safety guidelines, working autonomously, safely, and to a high standard.

  • Collect soil samples for carbon analysis following soil carbon sampling, soil science, and R&D methods and protocols
  • Ensure accurate collection and quality assurance of field data
  • Provide support for sample logistics and organization
  • Maintain all equipment, workspace, vehicles, and consumables
  • Clean and maintain field and plant sampling equipment, and organize equipment and consumables for the next sampling event
  • Provide day-to-day assistance across multiple teams at Loam

Requirements

  • Willingness to be based in Orange during the coring season and ability to travel frequently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and handle contingencies following Loam standard operating procedures, while maintaining high integrity when working unsupervised.
  • A self-starter who can work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Deep understanding of WHS and ability to work autonomously in remote locations.
  • Willingness to travel to remote locations, if required, and work on the road for extended periods of time.
  • Physically fit, willing, and able to perform laborious outdoor tasks associated with soil sampling.
  • Flexibility in approach to work - you will be required to work across different environments and settings.
  • Safety awareness and ability to follow Job Safety Assessments (JSA).
  • Driver's license and confidence with off-road driving (trailer towing experience preferred).
