The ICCT seeks a highly motivated and committed full-time employee, either at the Associate Researcher or Researcher level, in our Beijing office. You will contribute to ICCT’s efforts to improve the efficiency of trucks and buses, promote their electrification, and support the development of related policies in China. This position will provide the opportunity to work at the intersection of vehicle technology, economics, and public policy. The position is best suited to someone with inventiveness, creativity, resourcefulness, curiosity, and strong time management skills. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in a technical field and demonstrate an academic or professional interest in environmental, transportation, or energy topics.
Candidates who demonstrate significant experience in the areas mentioned below will be considered for the Researcher-level position upon the review of their application documents.
You Will:
- Perform high-quality quantitative research to support the development of local, regional, and national regulations designed to limit the environmental impacts of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, including commercial trucks and buses
- Perform quantitative analyses on the performance of conventional and zero-emissions vehicles and their market evolution
- Develop and apply algorithms, models, and computer scripts necessary to support the analysis of the environmental impact of conventional and zero-emissions vehicles
- Author or co-author blogs, briefing papers, memos, working papers, and white papers to communicate research findings and the policy implications for both technical and non-technical audiences, focusing on China
- Review and summarize policies, databases, and scientific literature related to efficiency or zero-emission technologies
- Prepare presentations and present findings in public forums, such as workshops and conferences, as well as in private forums, such as invite-only stakeholder meetings and policymaker briefings
- Help to organize outreach activities, such as webinars, briefings, meetings and workshops
- Engage with external stakeholders including government officials, policymakers, NGOs, academic experts, or industry partners
- Review other colleagues’ work as well as consultants’ work on projects
You Have:
- A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or a Ph.D.in engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related technical field
- Demonstrated research, education, or work experience related to transportation, climate change, energy, public health, or public policy
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills with common tools used for data analysis (e.g., Python, Matlab, R, SQL, ArcGIS)
- Experience as an author or co-author of academic papers, technical or policy reports, memos, briefing papers, and other forms of written communication in English
- Exceptional proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese, coupled with excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience working with policymakers, NGOs, industry, and other stakeholders is advantageous
Our Benefits
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position based in ICCT’s Beijing office with a salary of ¥282,083 for the Associate Researcher position. We offer an excellent benefits package, including health insurance, paid vacation, hybrid/remote flexibilities, transportation subsidies, and other benefits.
