The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Building Sustainability Engineer with strong project management experience who is keen to develop their career with a company at the forefront of building performance and decarbonisation of the built environment. The candidate will be working as part of a rapidly growing project team, using our newest, cutting-edge IES Digital Twin tools.
The successful candidate will manage projects and guide project teams, advising clients on resource consumption within the built environment, focusing on long term decarbonisation and short-term operation and management of buildings and communities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Work as part of the consultancy team in a senior role to manage the delivery of Digital Twin projects for decarbonisation at various scales
- Co-ordinate across the company’s divisions worldwide to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget
- Manage projects and ensure sufficient resource availability as well as high quality delivery
- Mentor, advise and guide junior colleagues, particularly with respect to project management and customer interaction
- Liaise with customers throughout the project lifecycle
- Attend project meetings, which may involve travelling
The Candidate
Essential skills:
- Project consultancy experience on large-scale, multiple-building projects
- A degree in a relevant discipline such as Building Services Engineering, Building Physics, Sustainability Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Urban Design Architecture
- Prior experience in the field of sustainable building design, undertaking analyses such as energy modelling, energy auditing, decarbonisation, low energy design, retrofits or retro-commissioning
- Ability to review, understand and interpret design and construction documentation, including floor plans, engineering schematics and schedules, specifications, shop drawings and operating sequences
- Experience with using building simulation software or related software tools (e.g. CAD, energy and loads analysis, daylight modelling, solar analysis, HVAC design tools)
- Prior project management experience and proven ability to work with minimal supervision and interact with external clients
- Experience as a mentor and coach, willing to guide more junior colleagues, helping them to achieve their potential
- Strong leadership skills and team working attitude
- Clear and confident communications skills
Desirable skills:
- Experience with the IES Virtual Environment software and in particular with ApacheHVAC, or any other IES software module is highly desirable
- Knowledge of MEP systems, controls and on-going management of these systems.
- Knowledge of heat networks and renewables
- Experience of GIS systems
- Previous exposure to Building Management Systems/IoT sensors and metered data.
- Understanding of ASHRAE 90.1- particularly the Appendix G Performance Rating Method- and the LEED Green Building Rating System are highly desirable
