Our team is looking to fill a senior staff accounting position focused on monthly close processes, controls implementations, preparing and analyzing financial schedules, and supporting audit and regulatory reporting activities. Additionally, this position will support key risk management initiatives and strategic priorities in partnership with other teams across Earthjustice.
The ideal candidate will have a strong base in accounting, excellent organizational skills, a critical mindset for investigating variances and streamlining processes in a risk-assessed manner, and be comfortable in settings with multiple stakeholders to consider. We have a preference for candidates who can work hybrid from our San Francisco, CA, headquarters, however we will consider candidates who are remote within the US.
Responsibilities
General Accounting (85%)
- Prepare monthly journal entries.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for cash, investment, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue and other general ledger accounts.
- Support month-end closes, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis.
- Research and provide recommendations for compliance with new and existing accounting standards.
- Conduct review controls over key processes.
- Contribute to the identification, prioritization and implementation of new controls.
- Support the annual audit, 990, and other regulatory review processes by providing necessary documentation, schedules and addressing audit inquiries.
- Other duties as assigned.
Project Support (15%):
- Provide expert input on the operational impacts of new technology, process, and policy changes to accounting, proactively supporting change while managing risk appropriately.
- Serve as a thought partner and contributor across the Finance department for strategic initiatives.
- Lead aspects of the annual risk assessment and controls matrix exercise.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business (with significant course-work in Accounting and Finance).
- At least 3 years of professional related experience working in accounting functions, non-profit experience a plus.
- Proven knowledge of accounting methods, processes and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations, and actively contributes to a positive and inclusive workplace for all.
- Able to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences, converting complex and technical principles into an understandable format.
- Expertise leveraging large datasets, financial systems and analytical tools.
- Detail-oriented and organized;, understanding of the value of accuracy.
- Capable of independent, solutions-oriented critical thinking; ability to adapt quickly.
- Understanding of controls design concepts and risk assessment methodologies.
Salary is based on location and experience.
Salary range in San Francisco, CA: $101,300 - $112,500
Salary range Remote (US): $86,100 - $112,500
