About CLIC

The ClimateShot Investor Coalition (CLIC) is an action-oriented group of investors working in agriculture and food systems. CLIC aims to rapidly scale-up the finance necessary to shift towards low-carbon, climate-resilient and nature-positive agriculture and food systems globally, thus delivering on the ambitions of the Glasgow Breakthrough Agenda on Agriculture agreed at COP26. As the Secretariat for CLIC it is our role at CPI to drive the strategic vision and workplan of the group. The CLIC Secretariat team leads on developing knowledge products for investors, policy makers, funders and the sector more broadly, running two members’ action groups, as well as the Agrifood Investment Connector, working directly with SMEs.


About the role

CPI is recruiting for a Senior Manager position offering an exciting opportunity to lead CPI’s work in climate finance for agrifood systems more widely, specifically by running the ClimateShot Investor Coalition (CLIC) Secretariat. We are looking for a candidate who has expertise and previous experience working in this space.


Reporting to the Director, UK, the CLIC Senior Manager will operate autonomously to lead the affairs of the CLIC Secretariat and engage with CLIC stakeholders. You will need to rapidly develop a solid understanding of CPI and CLIC mission in the climate finance for agrifood systems space as well as the CPI/CLIC stakeholders and partners that drive it, CLIC workstreams, strategy and governance as well as of CPI’s internal project management processes.


You will further develop and implement the CLIC’s strategy, governance, and existing relationships with senior stakeholders from members of the CLIC, government clients, investors, funders, agribusiness accelerators, deal rooms and relevant technical assistance (TA) programs in emerging and developing economies.


You will possess a calm, diplomatic approach, demonstrating leadership skills, resilience under pressure and a positive outlook to work effectively in a challenging context managing a diverse and geographically distributed set of stakeholders.

You will be responsible for overall management of CPI’s Secretariat of CLIC to ensure timely deliverables across the three action pillars:

  • Knowledge Products, through which we develop and disseminate thought leadership on the sector.
  • Agrifood Investment Connector, which facilitates investment in agribusinesses with climate, nature and biodiversity impacts.
  • Two Action Groups, through which members work together on priority initiatives.

The Senior Manager will dedicate their full-time efforts to the CLIC program initially, with a view to provide inputs to CPI wider agrifood systems related work over time, and helping to consolidate CPI’s global work on climate and nature finance for agrifood systems.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Manager will have primary duties including, but not limited to those outlined below:


Program Oversight

  • Accountability for shaping the overall CLIC strategy, encompassing strategic direction on membership, action pillars, governance and partnerships.
  • Accountability for development of annual workplans for each of the action pillars.
  • Accountability for financial and human resources necessary for the implementation of the Secretariat workplans.
  • Accountability for project budget and milestones ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and with quality.
  • Lead fundraising efforts when required. Technically lead and support coordination and development of knowledge products, grant proposals, grant reports, and strategic communications products.

External Engagement

  • Act as the main contact point with CLIC Secretariat funders on all strategic and technical matters.
  • Represent CLIC in external meetings, events and engagements with stakeholders in the climate finance and agrifood systems space. Engage partners, members, agribusinesses, advise policymakers and investors on the implications of research findings.

Internal Management

  • Provide leadership to the CLIC Secretariat team Directly line manage 4-5 people.
  • Provide mentorship to team members on project management and technical matters related to climate and nature finance for agrifood systems.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment conducive to innovation and knowledge sharing.
  • Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, International Development/Affairs, Public Policy, Environmental, or Physical Sciences or another relevant field.
  • Substantial professional experience (senior level) in climate and/or nature finance for agrifood systems, including in research institutions, think tanks, major consulting firms, or other relevant organizations.
  • In-depth understanding of the agrifood sector challenges in the face of climate change and nature degradation, familiarity with the actors operating in the climate/nature finance sector and with actions that are needed to mobilize the finance necessary to shift the sector towards climate and nature positive pathways.
  • Experience working with actors across the public and private sectors on climate issues related to agrifood systems (for example, impact investors, businesses, development finance institutions, and governments and regulators).
  • Expertise on international climate finance mechanisms and policy frameworks is desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of political and economic contexts in developing and emerging economies, particularly in the agrifood sector.
  • Demonstrated program and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software applications. Written and spoken fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of a second language is an advantage.
  • Advanced user of MS Office suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders, develop and maintain relationships in the agrifood and climate finance sector.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
